The demand for tailored freight services is growing in Southeast Queensland (SEQ). Businesses need these logistics options for moving stock, arranging bulky deliveries, and transporting unusual items.

Statewide data suggest why this might be the case. Queensland’s population will grow by 2.2 million people by 2046, leading to the need for over 900,000 new homes and more than one million new jobs. Furthermore, industrial land usage is rising (a common proxy for freight demand). Statistics suggest it could increase by 500 to 1,500 hectares over twenty years, leading to greater demand for logistics services.

Ultimately, these changes are positive for the freight industry in general and custom freight in particular. But what is custom freight?

What Is Custom Freight?

Custom freight is a special freight type tailored to clients’ requirements. These solutions provide additional options beyond mere truck space (either full-truck-load (FTL) or less-than-truck-load (LTL)).

As such, custom freight is more flexible than conventional alternatives. Clients can choose their pickup and drop-off times, making it more convenient for businesses wanting to meet tight deadlines.

Customers can also choose load sizes. Custom freight allows load variation and doesn’t require standard pallets or other techniques that guarantee volume. This feature makes it a compelling option for industries transporting non-standard goods.

Clients may also choose speed and delivery time with custom freight depending on the load. Carriers may offer a priority service with same-day or next-day dispatch for some items.

Finally, custom freight allows for flexible scheduling. Businesses can arrange recurring trips or opt for one-offs.

Usually, the latter wouldn’t be possible–most logistics providers want routine. However, custom freight enables this option via premium pricing and superior operations.

Why Businesses in SEQ (Southeast Queensland) Need Custom Freight

SEQ businesses will benefit from custom freight over the coming years. Many local industries, such as retail, manufacturing, food, and beverage, require this logistics option to succeed.

For example, retailers need specialist freight to help them meet changing demand conditions. Additional truckloads are often essential around the holidays and other busy times, especially when demand is seasonal.

The food and beverage industry is similar. Demand can fluctuate throughout the year according to consumer preferences. People want mince pies in the winter and salad greens in the summer.

Manufacturing, on the other hand, is different. The sector requires custom freight for bulky objects, like new turbines or conveyor belts. Standard freight services don’t always offer these options, so bespoke services are essential. Trucks with more interior space and extra features to keep goods steady are often more appealing.

Finally, businesses in SEQ need custom freight because of challenges with national carriers. Many don’t know the area and wind up late or going in the wrong direction.

By contrast, local operators know the region. This makes them less likely to make mistakes and enhances their ability to transport goods to their destination on time.

On this point, Compass Transport’s local knowledge and adaptability make us unique in the local area. We offer professional shipments up to 4,500 kg for peace of mind.

Service Routes: Brisbane ↔ Sunshine Coast ↔ Gold Coast and More!

Due to the ever-increasing population between Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Gold Coast, they see some of the country’s biggest freight lines running between them.

Most trucks use the Bruce Highway and the Pacific Motorway (M1). Distances along these arterial roads aren’t excessive, with some transit jobs running less than 100km.

Rail freight is also available via the North Coast Line, which runs from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast. However, this option is secondary.

What’s great about custom freight services along these routes is the schedules and personal service they offer. You can choose times, locations, and transport specifics for each route.

Affordable Solutions Without Sacrificing Quality

Compass Transport keeps costs low using several strategies:

  • No depot delays: We avoid delays with efficient dispatching and inventory management. We operate seamless communication between staff and clients to ensure superior workflow.
  • Direct routing: We can use point-to-point transit to enable faster transit times with dedicated vehicles. This option makes the service more bespoke and dedicated to you.
  • Minimal handling: Finally, we reduce handling, which contrasts with LTL shipments that require multiple touchpoints, lessening the risk of loss.

As such, custom freight can be as reliable as regular freight. The tradeoff is minimal.

So, are you searching for customer freight from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast? If so, request a quote or book a consultation with our team. Discover how we can transform your logistics operation to become your trusted, local freight company.

There’s more than one way to transport goods from one place to another. If you’re a business owner, then you’ll have a host of options available to you. The two most commonly used shipping methods are courier shipping and freight shipping. The chances are, you’ve heard of both of these, and you might, like many, believe that they’re the same thing.

However, there are key differences that it can pay — literally — to be aware of. In this post, we’ll run through everything you need to know about freight and courier shipping, including what they are, how they differ, and how to decide which one is right for you.

What Is Courier Delivery?

Courier delivery involves the transportation of smaller items. It’s often a door-to-door service, in which the packaged item is picked up before being transported directly to its eventual destination. Couriers are particularly useful when you have a small item that has to be delivered quickly; in some instances, same-day or next-day delivery is possible.

Courier services usually include reliable tracking systems that provide frequent updates about the progress of the delivery. The downside to couriers is that they’re generally more expensive per item and you can usually only transport small items.

What Is Freight Shipping?

Freight shipping is used to transport bigger items that aren’t appropriate for courier shipping. For example, large quantities of items, heavy equipment, or oversised items. In basic terms, if the package is too large to fit into a regular-sized van, then freight shipping is more appropriate.

You can use all kinds of transportation methods for freight shipping, including ships, planes, and trucks. That makes it highly convenient since it means you can easily send large quantities of items effectively anywhere in the world.

Key Differences Between Freight and Courier Shipping

We’ve already established that freight and courier shipping are two methods for transporting goods. Now let’s take a closer look at some of the key differences between the two.

Size of Package

Courier shipping is for small packages. If it’s heavier than 70 kg or larger than 105 inches, then it’ll be considered freight shipping. Note that this applies to the overall size of the shipment, not individual items. The item you’re shipping might only be 5kg, but if there are one hundred of them in the shipment, then it’s freight.

Cost

You’ll typically pay less per item for freight shipping than you would courier shipping. Indeed, many businesses elect to use freight shipping because of its cost-effectiveness.
Courier shipping, on the other hand, is typically more expensive because there’s a higher level of personalization involved. These door-to-door shipments are handled individually, rather than as part of a larger service, and also have more detailed tracking updates.

Speed

Freight shipping takes longer than courier shipping because it’s less direct. The items might make multiple stops along the way before eventually arriving at the end destination. Some freight shipping methods are faster than others, though — for example, your goods will arrive more quickly if they travel by plane rather than ship.

Courier shipping can be extremely fast, sometimes the same or next day, though you’ll pay more for expedited delivery.

Tracking

Both courier and freight shipping provide tracking updates, but they do so with different levels of frequency. Courier shipments can have live updates that tell you exactly where the package is at any given moment. Freight shipping provides tracking updates, but tends to do so more sporadically — for example, you might get an update when it leaves the warehouse, arrives at port, and arrives at its final destination.

End Delivery Destination

Freight shipping and courier shipping also have different end destinations. Courier shipping is a door-to-door service; if you send it to a customer, then it’ll be considered delivered when it arrives at their doorstep. Freight shipping is often terminal-to-terminal, with goods arriving at a warehouse or distribution centre, though freight services also offer deliveries to other arrival points.

Freight vs Courier: How to Choose

OK, so that’s the main differences between freight and courier shipping — now the question is, how do you decide which one is right for your needs?

If it’s small and lightweight, then courier shipping will do just fine. If it’s a large shipment (more than 70 kg), then freight shipping is the way to go.

Stories from across the globe –

Have a custom freight request? We’re confident we can help you out. Here at Compass Transport, we’ve developed a reputation for being the best Brisbane freight company the city has to offer — and we’d be all too glad to show you why. We’ve got bags of experience in helping businesses just like yours get their goods where they need to be, on time and within budget.

And if you think we might baulk at the idea of transporting something that’s slightly different to the usual freight requests, don’t be. Take a deep dive into the history of freight shipping — and we did — and you’ll see that there have been some highly unusual custom freight requests made to various freight companies – from all over the world!

In this post, we’ll outline just seven that caught our attention. Keep in mind that all the items on this list did make it to their eventual destination in one piece, which just goes to show that, in the freight shipping world, anything is possible!

An Intergalactic Voyager

We’re used to having people ask us to freight ship odd things, but so far, all of those things have been destined for use on planet Earth.

Back in 2021, an intergalactic voyager was transported nearly 6000 miles from California all the way to Kourou, French Guiana.

That voyager’s name? The James Webb Space Telescope. This telescope, by far the largest ever made, provided quite the logistical headache when it came to transporting it to the South American country where it would depart Earth’s atmosphere forever.

As you might expect, this was a meticulously planned operation. You don’t transport a 14,000-pound telescope to another continent without being sure everything will go to plan. Happily, it did! If you like, you can view the first images the telescope sent back to Earth here.

Dinosaurs!

Yes, believe it or not, dinosaurs have not only been requested to be freight shipped — they actually were freight shipped. OK, we’re not being entirely serious here: they weren’t real dinosaurs (shocking!), but rather replica dinosaurs.

But don’t let the fact that they weren’t real diminish how impressed you are that a company could transport them in one piece. These were lifesize replicas, which is another way of saying: they were huge. They were also made of steel, which meant they weighed over 1,000 pounds each.

They were transported in an open-air truck, which allowed other drivers the unique experience of driving past three lifelike dinosaurs. Pretty cool!

A Bank

Running a bank can be profitable eventually, but you’ll need a lot of money to get things up and running. Any idea that can save you some cash, therefore, is worth considering.

Still, it’s unlikely that you’ll come up with a plan as brilliant/insane as William H. Coltharp did when he needed to build a larger bank in a neighbouring town back in 1916. Put off by the amount of cash wagon freighters were charging to transport bricks to the new site, Coltharp used the United States Postal Service to send the 80,000 bricks at half the cost.

Alas, if you thought you might do that yourself, think again. Following this stunt, the USPS limited how much weight an individual could post per day.

A Gray Whale

People try to freight ship animals all the time. In most cases, it’s illegal, and the request will not be granted. But there have been instances when animals have been freight shipped. One such example is the story of J.J., a baby grey whale that became stranded on a beach in California. After being rescued and nursed back to health, it was decided that J.J. should return to her natural habitat. The only problem was that, in the 14 months that had passed, J.J. had become an adult grey whale, and now clocked in at 30 feet long and some 18,000 pounds.

The flatbed transportation operation was a success, and today J.J. is believed to still be going strong out in the wild.

Sand…To a Country That Has A Lot of Sand

It wouldn’t be that unusual for someone to request sand to be freight shipped. However, it is unusual for that request to come from a country that is overflowing with sand. You might expect Denmark to freight ship sand into the country, but not Egypt.

One freighting company received a request to transport sand from Rome to Egypt and rightly became a little confused. However, it turned out that there was a perfectly logical explanation — the receiving company was a glassmaking company that needed a specific type of sand for one of its projects.

Children

OK, we’ll be honest; no one has ever tried to freight ship children in bulk, but this story was so odd that we felt we had to include it. Back in the early days of the United States Postal Service, the blossoming organisation hadn’t yet clarified what could and could not be sent using its service.

And so people — well, seven at least — used the service to mail their children to their grandparents and other relatives, because why not? Not only did they try to mail their children, but they succeeded. It was only later that the USPS forbade the shipping of children. Simpler times!

The Statue of Liberty

How do you transport a 150+ foot, 225-tonne statue? Answer: with great difficulty. After it was officially unveiled to the United States in France, the statue had to be completely disassembled and packaged into 214 crates for its journey across the Atlantic Ocean.

Receiving a gift that is such a faff to transport is a little frustrating, but given that the statue is still standing tall today, we’ll wager that the United States were pretty happy with it.

Contact Compass Transport Today

You probably won’t have a request as crazy as any of the ones outlined above, but even if you do, we’re all ears (within reason!). To tell us more about your custom freight requests, please call 0426 268 184 or click here.

Discover the most critical factors to consider when choosing the right freight solutions for your business.

Getting your product to your customer is one of the most vital stages of running your business. This means that choosing the right freight solution that facilitates this is also crucial. The good news is you can read below about the most important factors to weigh when choosing the right freight solutions for your business.

Understand Your Freight Needs

The first step in choosing the right freight solutions for your business is properly understanding your freight needs. This step is all about having a firm grasp on what you will need from a freight service, so you can better narrow down the providers you can work with.

To establish what you will need from a freight provider you need to first look carefully at a range of factors including:

  • Type of goods – are the goods hazardous or perishable?
  • Volume of goods – are the goods oversised, do you only have a small shipment to make?
  • Type of delivery – do you require door-to-door delivery, do you need goods to pass through customs, do you need warehouse storage space.
  • Location being delivered to – what are the regulations on shipments in the delivery location, does it make one type more preferable than others?

Choosing a freight company in Southeast Queensland is one of the most important decisions that you’ll ever make. In truth, a local freight specialist should be at the top of your agenda whether operating in Brisbane, Gold Coast, or Sunshine Coast. Compass Transport is the #1 solution.

The service will ultimately influence your supply chain and customer satisfaction levels, which is why you cannot afford to get it wrong. Our local freight experts provide a comprehensive service that is loved by businesses big and small. Here’s why opting for a local service is the best choice for your ongoing freight requirements.

Local Expertise and Knowledge

Perhaps the most obvious incentive for choosing a local freight company in Brisbane and the surrounding areas is that the business brings local expertise and knowledge to the table. Rather than simply knowing about the freight industry, Compass Transport boasts an in-depth understanding of the logistical challenges facing clients in Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Southeast Queensland.

Whether it’s navigating regional roads, knowing how traffic patterns impact journeys, or appreciating the climate of Southeast Queensland doesn’t matter. The seemingly small matters that often get taken for granted can make all the difference when providing accurate estimated delivery times.

Similarly, a strong knowledge of the local area that extends to events as well as upcoming temporary issues on the road network opens the door to more strategic planning. When combined with a familiarity with all relevant road regulations and freight transport policies in Queensland, a better approach is assured.

Personalised Service

If you’ve ever worked with a national company, it’s likely that you’ve been made to feel like little more than a number. It’s probably the main reason why you’re now looking for a new solution and should opt for a local freight company like Compass Transport. You will gain the same level of personalised services and strong working relationships that you try to provide to your clients. Perfect.

For starters, it’s nice to feel valued as a customer, especially as 60% of B2B clients have stated that they have never been made to feel special. Compass Transport is a local freight provider that is committed to delivering a truly personalised approach to create a strategy that is truly built around your requirements.

Looking at key considerations like the average size and weight of your freight deliveries, or how often you ship items in Brisbane and beyond, allows us to build the right plan. This is supported further by regular reviews to confirm that the service delivers the goods while we can also make temporary or permanent modifications where appropriate.

Quicker Response Times

The need for fast deliveries is greater than ever. In fact, over 40% of consumers now expect online orders to arrive in 24 hours while freight packages are often burdened by a need to reach their destinations just as quickly. Starting the journey with quick response times will put you on the road to greater success, and a local freight company can deliver this thanks to proximity and availability.

It is stated that some national companies take up to 60 hours to respond. Compass Transport offers same-day, express, and overnight freight delivery services to clients in the Gold Coast and the wider region of Southeast Queensland. The services can be used for kitchen equipment, pallet deliveries, long lengths, and more.

Rapid response times and quick freight turnarounds translate to improved logistics, convenient management, and increased client satisfaction. In turn, you should be better positioned to maximise loyalty and long-term profits, not least because you can focus time and energy on other matters.

Community Engagement and Support

A local freight company in Southeast Queensland will spot the regional economy, especially when it is one that employs local employees. In the case of Compass Transport, a fleet of almost 50 vehicles has a hugely positive influence on the local community and economy. Naturally, supporting local community initiatives and holding partnerships with other local firms aids the cause further.

Local freight teams also have their fingers on the pulse when it comes to understanding what matters to people in the local community, and can subsequently try to incorporate this into your services. Great examples include supporting worthy causes and initiatives. When people engage with your business as a result of this, it can only aid your image.

On a side note, working with a local freight company supports your environmentally friendly initiatives as fewer carbon emissions are made. This is particularly true when choosing Compass Transport and our UD MK5 freight vehicles. It is a move that can work wonders for your reputation and appeal to clients.

Cost Efficiency

Every big business decision should be made with one eye on the financial aspects, which is another huge incentive for choosing a local freight company. Local companies naturally have lower transportation costs and overheads due to covering smaller distances to collect your consignments in Brisbane, Gold Coast, or Sunshine Coast. Understandably, this will be reflected in the cost.

When looking to reduce your freight costs, Compass Transport goes the extra mile. Gap analysis ensures that you can start getting what you pay for, which instantly makes your freight services more cost-efficient. When combined with strategy assessments designed with short and long-term success in mind, you won’t go far wrong.

Every aspect of the implementation is built around your specific needs, meaning zero wasted dollars. Regardless of the frequency and volume of your freight needs, or the destinations, you will find that your capital works harder. This is further supported by transparent and flexible payment plans for even greater success.

Conclusion

Choosing a local freight company isn’t just a convenient choice. It is the best way to get the best result for your finances, time, and sanity. Thanks to a combination of local expertise and personalised services underpinned by an understanding of the region, this approach will deliver better outcomes. Better still, once you have found the right company, you can rely on the service for many years to come.

Conversely, persisting with a bigger national company may hinder your deliveries, ultimately impacting your supply chain and customer satisfaction levels in a very big way.

To regain control of your freight needs, call Compass Transport to build a customised strategy now.

What Is Custom Freight?

Let’s start out by going through what custom freight actually is. Freight is a service that you can pay for to transport goods, cargo, or lading to a selected location. Freight can travel by water, land, or air. Some of the most common means of transporting these goods include trucks, railroad cars, and large ships carrying containers. Here at Compass Transport QLD, we specialise in land freight, transporting items from A to B in our large trucks.

Our Custom Freight Services

There are plenty of freight services out there, but we know that it can be difficult to get certain items transported, with many freight services refusing them. We specialise in picking up and delivering items that other companies may refuse. We are happy to collect items from Brisbane, The Gold Coast, and The Sunshine Coast. We’re proud to have served these communities for 30 years now and have developed a bond of trust and respect with clients from all of these areas. We use a Mitsubishi Fuso 1124, which is a 10 pallet tautliner/curtainsider with a 2 tonne tailgate, which also features gates for added security during transport. This curtain side design offers a whole host of benefits over pantecs or those that need tarpaulins. We make sure that our truck is superior, as we expect only the best for our customers.

We would like to take the opportunity from our side at Compass Transport to thank you for your business and wish you a very Merry Christmas. We appreciate the trust our customers have placed in us over the years, and we look forward to continuing to serve you with all of your transport needs in the next year; as a token of our appreciation, we would like to share the following 5 Road Safety Tips for Christmas!

Avoid drinking and driving

Be sure to plan ahead for a designated driver or take public transportation home if you’re out celebrating with friends. The conditions may be like on the road. Make sure that no friends or family drive while impaired; rather than have them angry with you, avoid an accident. Furthermore, make sure you leave with a full tank of gas and if you’re going on a long drive, be sure to take breaks along the way. Finally, it’s imperative that you make sure that if you have teenagers that they are aware of the rules when it comes to road safety.

Slow down

The holidays can be a hectic time, and it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, but don’t let that haste come at the cost of your safety. Make sure to drive under the speed limit and pay attention to traffic signs and signals. Paying extra attention when driving is especially important during holiday travel times or inclement weather, so always be prepared for unexpected delays or road conditions. Don’t forget to check the vehicle you’re driving. Make sure the wipers, lights and tires are all in good condition before taking off on a road trip!

Check your vehicle

The holiday season also represents an excellent opportunity to perform maintenance checks on your car or truck, such as topping up fluid levels, checking brakes and oil filters etc. – wintery conditions require special attention when it comes.

Be aware of additional dangers

From icy roads to more cars on the roads, there are a few added dangers you should be aware of this season. Snowy or icy conditions can have an impact on your vehicle’s performance, so make sure you allow yourself extra time and space to come to a complete stop. Also, be sure to look out for other drivers who may need to be more experienced in dealing with adverse conditions. Furthermore, the holidays mean extra cars on the roads, so be extra vigilant when in congested areas.

Check your vehicle

Make sure your car is adequately prepared for the season by checking things like oil levels, tire pressure, brakes and wiper blades. Taking the time to check that everything is in order can help you avoid any potential issues or accidents this holiday season. Additionally, if you plan on taking a long road trip, be sure to bring the necessary supplies in case of an emergency.

Be mindful of other drivers

When out and about during the holidays, don’t forget that everyone is likely feeling rushed and may not always be driving as cautiously as they should. Give other drivers plenty of room to make their moves, use your turn signals and don’t tailgate! It’s also important to remember that even though you’re in a hurry, safety always comes first – so take it easy on the roads this season. In addition, make sure to give yourself plenty of time for your travels so that you’re not feeling pressured to make up for the lost time.

In conclusion, we hope all of our customers have a safe, wonderful and Merry Christmas. We at Compass Transport are proud to provide quality transportation services that help make your travels worry-free this holiday season and all year round! Wishing you joy, peace and happiness during the holiday season. Have a very Merry Christmas from all of us here at Compass Transport!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

See you in the new year 😀

As the festive season approaches, businesses brace for the busiest time of the year. It’s a period marked by a surge in consumer spending and an increased demand for shipping services. Understanding and adhering to holiday shipping deadlines is critical for businesses to ensure timely delivery and maintain customer satisfaction. This guide delves into the importance of these deadlines and offers strategies to navigate the Christmas shipping season effectively.

The Significance of Shipping Deadlines During Holidays

  • Peak Season Challenges:
The holiday season is synonymous with peak shipping times. Carriers are inundated with parcels, leading to potential delays and logistical challenges. Being aware of the cut-off dates set by shipping companies is vital to circumvent these bottlenecks.
  • Customer Expectations:
Customers expect timely delivery, especially for holiday purchases. Late arrivals can lead to dissatisfaction and harm your business reputation. Understanding shipping deadlines helps in setting realistic expectations for your customers.
  • Inventory Management:
Adhering to shipping deadlines aids in efficient inventory management. It ensures that your stock levels are optimal, preventing overstocking or stockouts, which can be costly for businesses.
  • Cost Efficiency:
Last-minute shipping often incurs higher costs. Planning in accordance with the deadlines can lead to more cost-effective shipping options, ultimately benefiting your bottom line.
  •

    Strategies for Managing Shipping Deadlines

  • Stay Informed:
Regularly check updates from your shipping partners. Carriers often publish their holiday schedules well in advance, including the last days to ship for guaranteed pre-Christmas delivery.
  • Communicate with Customers:
Transparency is key. Inform your customers about the last order dates for holiday delivery. Consider displaying this information prominently on your website and through social media channels.
  • Plan Ahead:
Proactive planning can mitigate many shipping challenges. This includes assessing inventory levels, forecasting demand, and coordinating with your shipping partners early.
  • Offer Multiple Shipping Options:
Providing a range of shipping options caters to different customer needs. Some may prefer faster, albeit more expensive, shipping, while others may opt for standard options.
  • Leverage Technology:
Utilise shipping and logistics software to streamline processes. These tools can offer insights into the most efficient shipping methods and help track shipments in real-time.

The holiday season is on the way and, for a lot of businesses, that means a lot more activity, as well. While there is an opportunity for revenue and profit, there is also an opportunity for disaster if you’re not prepared for the Christmas rush.

Here, we’re going to make sure that all the news this time of year is merry for your business, by looking at how you can prepare yourself, especially through your logistics, to ensure that you’re making the most of your holiday season.

Keep your customers in the loop

As soon as you start to feel the Christmas rush coming, or even in advance of that, be sure to send letters or emails reminding your customers that the season is coming. Let them know that there is likely to be a rush, so the sooner they get their orders in, the better the chance they will be able to get the products they need in time for the holidays. You definitely want those letters out by mid-November at the latest, and another at the end of the month.

Get an idea of your stock needs ASAP

One of the biggest challenges is to ensure that you have the stock you need to satisfy customer demand. While the past couple of years might have a few outliers, given industry-wide challenges, you should still be looking at the prevailing trends over the past years to get a much better idea of how much stock you need on your shelves. You might need to look at ordering stock earlier, or even going with international supply, eating the cost to maximize sales if you can’t get all your supply domestically.

    Automate and digitise

Not only is automating and digitising the process of ordering goods a big help to your customers, but it can also help your inventory management and your freight demand estimates. By automating information on how many orders are made, you can cut down on the time it takes from you and your team, getting accurate and fast reports on how much stock you might need to prepare, especially if you’re opening for pre-orders.

Start stocking the materials and resources you need now

The logistics sector has had a shake-up over the past few years, with services slowing down and temporarily or permanently shutting down. For instance, many of the suppliers are reporting a high chance of shortages come the holiday season. As such, it’s a good idea to start stock piling pallets and other surplus supplies you have now. Make any orders you need now, ahead of time, if possible, and don’t be afraid to get in touch with more than one supplier to help meet those needs.

    Control your volume delivery

While you can expect increased demand, there are also some moves you can make to ensure that demand doesn’t reach a boiling point too close to Christmas, which is guaranteed to end in delays and late deliveries. For instance, you can incentivise your shoppers to place their orders now, be it by providing free deliveries, discounts on your best-selling products, or guarantees for on-time delivery if they are made before a certain date. The more advance your customers can give you, the better you will be able to meet their needs. Of course, there are always going to be those making orders at the latest possible moment, but anything you can do to hold off that pressure is a win.

    Ready your infrastructure

As mentioned, regardless of what steps you take to make the volume of orders more manageable, you’re going to have the holiday rush. As such, you should be ready to scale your infrastructure. This can include hiring short-term or freelance warehouse labourers to help you shift all that extra stock. But it is also likely to include making sure that you can find the outsourced freight planning services that you need. Outsourcing gives you the ability to rapidly scale to meet increased demand, but it’s better to start scaling with as much advanced notice as possible so that you can make sure you’re ready for the holiday period.

Ensure you have the right freight planning partner to help you through the holiday season
